About 1/5 of the world's population lives in this vast country. In 1994, a group of workers in this large international city started a school for their own children. This resulted in the establishment of Kunming International Academy. With this school being the only international school in the city, the international business community quickly took advantage of the school, causing good numerical growth. Chinese children are not allowed to attend international schools in China so the students enrolled in the Oasis school in China are dependents of expatriates representing more than 20 nations. The students, however, have become involved in many projects that serve the local Chinese, proving to be a natural "bridge" between the wonderful people of China and the foreign community living there.
